I would be very careful about this if you are intending to "spring" this
change on the unit elections team when it arrives to conduct your troop's
While the OU indicates "immediate" implementation, that word has been
defined several times on Arrow-L (by members of the national committee) as
being the length of time it takes for the information to make its way from
the SE through the Lodge Adviser down to the unit election teams.
Thus, until the LODGE instructs its unit elections teams that they are to
implement the new procedures it would be, IMO, improper for any election
team in the lodge to make the decision on its own to use them.
While it is clear that in many lodges some elections during this election
cycle will have been conducted using the old rules, and others will be done
using the new rules, I think it is important that each lodge have a "bright
line cutoff" at which time they begin implementing the new procedures.
Thus, as Supreme Chief of the Fire, it is really up to the SE to define
"immediately" as it applies within his council.
