Merit Badge Counseling

Since I now have something to ask, I guess I am just a lurker finally
coming out of the closet...
I don't particularly like the idea that my questions may cause a flood
of responses to the mail list and/or start a flame war, so I would ask
that any responses be sent to me directly (firstname.lastname@example.org) rather than
replying to the entire list. I know that everyone has their own
opinion, which may disagree with anothers and it is not my intention to
tie up the list server with long lasting threads on the subject. On the
other hand, there may be others like me who would like to see responses
to this subject. If that is the case, I will be happy to forward any
help/suggestions I receive to those who ask.
I have signed on to become a merit badge counselor for the Trails West
Council in Southern Illinois. I think I understand the basic concepts
of being a merit badge counselor, but I am looking for any suggestions
from the group to make my efforts more meaningful for the scouts. Such
as, arranging for field trips, holding training/counseling sessions
during troop meetings, how in depth the counselors present material or
anything that would help me be effective in the task.
Initially, I am registered for the Radio, Computers and Electronic
Merit Badges. Any information specific to those badges would be greatly
appreciated. I feel I know the subjects well enough, but any tips you
may have would be welcome.
