I don't claim to know but I would expect you to be right. In general if a
virus is real I don't hear from it from scouting sources first but from
computing sources. People should be more considerate before crying wolf.

This is wrong. A virus could exploit a bug in your e-mail program. Another
way to get a virus from reading e-mail on an unsafe architecture (like pc's)
is that some systems download and executing of programs or macros automatically.
But nevertheless, that virus alert didn't feel very believable to me.
