Our troop has attempted to meet this requirement both ways and have had
varried sucess. Out troop highly emphsises it's camping program and the
sooner we can expose our newcommers to the experiance the better. We
usually have the den attend the planning meeting so they can see what goes
in to making it all work. We usually arrange the event so that the troop
arrives the day prior to the den and gets their camp setup out of the
way--then they can assist the den with theirs.
In the other approach of taking the den on a day activity we have found that
it does not achieve much. The level of excitement is lower and many dont
see what our troop does the most.. It makes sense to taylor the activity
planned for webelos to reflect your troop's program of activities and for
ours it is definantly camping.
