National Camping School is conducted by each Region. Its purpose is
to train day camp, summer camp, and high adventure base key staff;
certain positions are required by national camp standards to have
current (within 5 years) National Camping School certification.
If you are interested in NCS training, you should be serving in, or
plan to serve in, a day camp (such as Cub Scout day camp or resident
camp), summer camp (Camp Director, Program Director, Business
Manager, Waterfront Director, Ecology-Conservation Director, Shooting
Sports Director, Camp Commissioner, Chaplain, C.O.P.E. Director), or
high adventure base (Philmont conducts its own training; I'm not sure
about the others) key staff position.
Your council office should be able to get you information on the
dates and locations for this training through your region office.
Spaces in some of the sections are limited, but others (Chaplain
comes to mind!) aren't in as much demand, so they're easier to get
into (if you can find one being offered!)
