Cathy Carver asks about Cub Packs in the Denver area:
While I'm not in Denver, I'm in the process of finding my third
unit in the last five years. While I do ask people for recommendations,
the units recommended may not be the best for you. Allow me to suggest
another method that will let you find what's best for the
way you work.
--Call the Denver Council Office when you arrive. Telephone number
is usually in the book under 'Boy Scouts', or listed in the community
--Ask when their monthly District Roundtables are, in the area you will
--Go to the roundtable. Observe. Chat with some of the leaders there. Ask
about their units. Get a feel for the leaders present whose personality
methods of operation are most comfortable to you.
By starting your search with leaders who are at Roundtable, you are
out the units whose leaders are "too busy", "have their own method" or
"don't need to learn that stuff", all of which are warning signals. You
also get to choose from -all- the units, not just the nearest ones that
someone might know of. The leaders at Roundtables are typically open to
ideas, up to date with policies, programs and procedures, and because of
this, welcome good people into their units and use them appropriately.
Good Luck. I hear Denver is almost as nice as my new home :-)
