King Carl XVI Gustav also attended the BSA National Jamboree in 1981 as a
private citizen in his role in Scouting.
It was made clear to the appropriate authorities in Washington, D.C. that
this was a personal and not a state visit. However, the Swedish National
Anthem was still brought to us from The Pentagon (!) by special courrier when
the BSA requested the sheet music for the band to play in his pressence.
(I was a clarinetist in that band.)
He attended, appropriately dressed as a Swedish Scout Leader. His pressence
was more meaningful to me than the pressence (or not) of any American
President. We really are a World Brotherhood!
