Jim Gibson asked about the Troop committee setting some sort of
attendence guidlines to determine or define an "active scout". In a
recent string on this same subject many of us cautioned having rigid
rules as there may be many mitigating circumstances affecting attendence.
Like all Troops 615 has grappeled with this issue. After it was hashed
about by the committee I convinced them to let me take it to the PLC
(patrol leaders council). I explained the problem to them and the
delemma the Adult leaders have had in trying to be fair yet consistant
in that requirement. I put it to them to give us a rule or definition
that they felt was fair and reasonable. What they have come up with is a
set of "excused" absences, which for our Troop seems to work. The moral
here is once again turn it over to the boys, let them contribute to the
Troop policy, they all buy in that way.
