Subj: The Year is Up, the end is near!
Well the year is up and the end is near. Yes at least for me. It has been
one year November 1, since I became the Eagle District Activities Chairman.
have had the (first) District Awards "Dinner"; Boy Scout Leader Training,
an activity, but there was no one else to do it); Webelos Outdoor Weekend;
District Picnic; Mom and Me; District Camporee!
It has been a great year, and a massive amount of work. It is amazing what
you can do in 1 hour per week! <vbg> My goal was to make each event the
Ever", and I did a pretty good job. Two events rated as the Best Ever, (WOW
and Mom and Me) Three good events, (dinner, smurf, and District Camporee) and
one about average, (Distict picnic)
It has been a challege, and a great thrill at the same time. To plan three
events for approximately 500 scouts and see it come into reality provides an
ultimate reward. Every Scouter should volunteer for a District Event. What
you can do with the power of several hundred to several thousand scouts is
unlimited. You can use your imagination and make the dream come true.
Thank you to each and every one of you, who has over the past year, helped
giving me ideas, and provided a towel when I was frustrated. My year ended
this weekend with the District Camporee. The Great Scoutmaster of us all
smiled upon me as well.
You see the Tulsa Run a regional 10 K run and the PGA were both in Tulsa, the
weatherman predicted record cold and rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Well
the Great Scoutmaster held the front back until Sunday when the Camporee was
over and I was driving home. Yes it came through and dropped the temp. 20
degrees and dumped about 3 inches of rain. I was watched over.
Now don't worry that I wont have anything to do. I have agreed to continue
until the District Awards Dinner, after all who can plan a better RETIREMENT
party for me, than I CAN!!!!!!!
Yours in Scouting
