I'm sure there are lots of people on this list who remember me.. at least I
hope so :-)
I have been away from this list for more than a year.
This was because I was devoting a year of my life to my country, as evey male
italian citizen has to do.
Most people spend this year in the army.
I spent a year working with handicapped boys and girls, in a small community
center which relies solely on volunteers, and on people like me doing their
"Civilian Service" (as opposed to "Military Service").
I lived there, and each morning I (or one of my three companions) would get on
our van, and take some boys and girls either at their home or at the bus stop
(if they live in nearby villages), then bring them at our Center, and spend the
morning with them, doing crafts, going for a walk, drawing or writing or doing
math according to one's skills, and then driving them back home or to the bus.
Then, in the afternoon, the same.
Sometimes we had day-long activities, such as Luna Park visits, and we also
spent ten days at the sea and three days in the mountains...
I had first known of this center a few years ago, as a Scouter, when we helped
them for a fund-raising activity. Sometime later, I have been helping them in a
different way... :-)
During the first months, I managed to keep subscribed, but that didn't last
This is in part due to the fact that last September Claudia entered my life...
and unfortunately she lives in Rome, while I live in L'Aquila... that's about
Also, I was spending most of my free time maintaining and improving my own
Bulletin Board System, which I called Gilwell BBS.
This BBS is, of course, a member of the Global ScoutNet, a BBS network spanning
most continents (we only lack Oceania...) and dedicated to scouting (and
guiding) in all its forms...
Which leads me to an important issue...
We have now set up a gateway to link this mailing list to the Global ScoutNet.
I can now read it as an echomail area... and write in it in the same way!
Each user of the Global ScoutNet has an internet address. In my case, it is
Gino.Lucrezi@Scoutnet.Org, so you can send any private email to that address
(actually, you can also write to firstname.lastname@example.org, as before..)
The gateway should be working now, and this re-introduction message will also
act as a test - I hate "this is a test" messages, you can test *and* say
something at the same time.
There should also be a few lines of explaination at the end of every posting
Well, it's time to close up.
This year, I'll be able to be again active in scouting where it matters, that
is with the boys.
I'll be Assistant Scout Master. The Scout Master is very young, he's 22, and
he's attending Basic Training this week... but he has already proven its
BTW, for those of you who didn't get to know me, I'm 27, and I completed
Woodbadge three years ago.
