Re: Year pins

I would have you take a look at the web page I've created with one of each
year pin there...
but I've forgotten where it's at right now *sour face*.
Everyone has told you by now that the blue is for volunteer service, the
Cub Scouting, etc., etc...but do you know HOW those came to be???
Hopefully, this'll make them bells ring in your head the next time someone asks
those same questions...it did for me:
Let's start with some "duh" stuff:
The yellow backing is for Cub Scouting and the green backing is for Boy
it goes with the colors of the program, which for Cub Scouting traditionally
is blue and
gold and for Boy Scouting its khaki (green) and red.
Exploring got the red color partly from the "leftover" from the Boy Scout colors
(remember, Exploring was then the "senior Scouting program").
The light blue goes back to the light blue used for local Council flags, as
well as the
part of the ribbon for the Silver Beaver Award, which back then, only volunteers
received. Our Council's flags were a lighter blue than they are now.
The orange color used by the Tiger Cub program goes with their colors of black
and orange; while the brown color used by the Varsity program goes with their
colors of blaze (a deep orange-red, symbolic of the connection between Varsity
and Boy Scouting) and brown.
Orange is used for Tiger Cubs
Yellow is used for Cub Scouts and WEBELOS Cub Scouts
Green is used for Boy Scouts
Brown is used for Varsity Scouts
Red is used for Explorers
Light Blue is used for District/Council service (as a volunteer or professional)
Hope this all helps...it's tough being the last guy, but as I've wrote before,
this isn't a race to see who gets the current and correct information out
first; it's communication between people that not only want to give the
information, but also talk about it and why it's or isn't so important!
