I have used suture material in a continuous running pattern (Silk 4-0 with a
3/8" circle reverse cut needle) as an alternate method of attaching patches.
The advantage is that you are using pre-cut thread ready for sewing. The
disadvantage is that the material only is available in black, you need a
needle holder (Mayo-Hegar 6 1/4") & suture sissors (Hu-Friedy 6"), an
autoclave to sterilize your instruments, and a bio-hazzard sharps container
to place your used needle. I do not recommend using nylon sutures (difficulty
retaining the knot) or resorbable gut (dissolves after several washings).
