When I was a scout in the Detroit Area Council, each boy was required
to bring a can of condensed soup with him to the Klondike Derby.
(January in Michigan = cold). There were no other restrictions so
needless to say there were dozens of different kinds of soup brought.
The cans were all mixed together in one big pot. Each boy got a mug full
of this concoction coming off the activities trail. My recollection is
that this stuff actually tasted good! But who knows, after 26 years,
my memory is somewhat dim and it could be that hot gruel would have
been equally enjoyable. Hot? Yes. Unusual? Yes. Beverage? Hmm... that's
