Tonight will be our first visit by Webelos since I became Scoutmaster.
The boys have planned a fun evening of dutch oven cooking, showing
a model campsite, and of course Capture the Flag.
I plan to tell the parents to visit several troops (there's at least a dozen
the area). Ask your troops for their annual calendar and troop handbook.
I plan to hand out both. We'll also invite the Webelos back to next
month's Court of Honor and to a campout. I'll hand out fliers on both.
Ask for a calendar to see what kind of outings the troops have and how
much camping they do. Ask for a troop handbook to see what kind of
rules the troop uses. Besides looking to see who runs the troop (boys
or adults) and what kind of activities they have - there are really some
very basic practical questions that probably override most other
considerations: When and where do they meet? Remember you'll be
going there EVERY week. Which troop will the boys' friends be in?
