Regarding the comments on BSA membership statistics for Cubs and Scouts:
An interesting perspective from north of the border. In Canada, the
Scouting organization officially adopted the name "Scouts Canada" and have
allowed sponsoring organizations to have co-ed units. In training we refer
to youth, not boys.
It poses many difficulties that have to be worked out. The needs of young
men and young women are so very different during those years; it forces
adult leaders to be extra careful as they relate to the youth.
If BSA starts thinking about name changes (and I'm not suggesting that they
should) it will have to deal with many others issues at the same time.
