Hmmm, how much help Wal-Mart offers to Scouting must depend on local
management or something. Our Wal-Marts have helped out a bunch over the
years (Troop, District, and Council level activities). One of our Eagles
got some nice help from our new Super Center during his Eagle Service
Project last summer (materials, tools, and refreshments for the workers).
I have seen Girl Scouts doing cookies in front of Wal-Mart (O.K. Cub/Boy
Scouts...what about popcorn!) and local Boys/Girls Clubs are out there
every now and then. A number of our Scouts have been given summer and
part-time jobs at local Wal-Mart stores.
IMHO, around here Wal-Mart has done a little above average in supporting
I haven't seen the commercial that Buddy referred to. I wonder if any
level of BSA was in the approval loop? I don't like the idea of anyone
using our "image" without our agreement...any jackleg can easily get
"official looking" Scout uniforms and use them to lend creedence to any
message he might want to push. Shoot...we might even see Scout uniforms in
the next Madonna video...
