It was brought to my attention that a young man was injured while using a
white gas stove on a recent camping trip. In discussing what led up to the
accident and how to avoid it in the future leads to this posting.
While Adults and Youth are trained in the proper usage of liquid fuels
applications, it must always be remembered that they are dangerous and an
equipment malfunction is always possible. The Scout Motto of "Be Prepared"
must be brought to the front when using this equipment. Often when using
equipment on a regular and frequent basis, people (adults and youth) will
take their knowledge for granted. It must always be remembered, BE PREPARED
for a malfunction or any other outside action that will give this equipment
the opportunity to be DANGEROUS.
