Perhaps a slight shift in emphasis may add something to the discussion.....
While it *may* be true camping is not necessary to the success of a *scout*,
it certainly *is* necessary to the success of the Troop or Pack. During my
Basic Training, two things were drummed into me:
1. KIS-MIF (Keep It Simple - Make It Fun!)
2. The unit camps or it dies.
It clearly does no good to have the unit disband due to a lack of interest by
the boys. In the early days of our Pack, one of the quietest members asked
me point blank, during a Pack meeting, (in front of parents and everyone)
just when were we going to have fun. When asked what he called 'fun', he got
our attention by saying 'CAMPING. That's why *I*joined.' !!!!!!!
This got our attention, we did something about it, and the Pack has tripled
in size in the last year. By the way......the boys *are* having
