My Mile Swim patch is on the back of my Merit Badge Sash along with cloth
and metal badges of rank. I suspect it was earned in 1942 since we also had
to swim a mile each year at Culver Military Academy. We didn't have to spend
so much time reading regulations back then and progress was Cub Scouts, Boy
Scouts, Military, College, work, Scouts with kids, retire, Scouts with
grandkids, second childhood with more expensive toys.
