Well I think I covered you're number 1 in my last message. We cover camping
fees from our general troop fund (when needed, we camp several places that
require no fees) with dues and fundraisers. We do not charge for gas
either. Most drivers use the 'tax deduction' method to write off their gas.
For those parents driving who can't afford the gas money, we just ask them
to submit the receipts for reimbursement. I think we've disbursed about $50
in gas the last 5 years.
The only camping fees we do charge for are the ones from a Council/District
sponsored event such as Klondike Derby, Camporee and Camporall and of
course the annual summer camp.
We used to have a problem with food for the patrols. Some were charging $5
and other patrols $15 and no matter what they were eating junk food and
soda pop. About 3 years ago, we started cooking contests between the
patrols at campouts and a couple of months later set spending limits for
meals. A patrol now charges $1.50 per meal per Scout. So of there will be 4
meals, every single Scout going on the campout knows it will be $6. No
more, no less. Of course we all heard grumble, grumble when we put this
into implementation. But now I would put our Troop against any other in the
nation for cooking at campouts. A sample of this past weekends meals were:
corned beef and cabbage and red potatoes (my favorite this time around),
sweet and sour chicken over rice, pot roast with vegetables and potatoes au
gratin, eggs benedict, etc.
So our average cost of outings for regular campouts to the boys is $6.
Leave Friday nite (sack lunch), B/L/D Saturday and Breakfast Sunday.
Camping fees, etc. are covered by the general operating of the troop.
Again, hope this helps you out.
