Years ago I had each patrol purchase their own food but to obtain economies
of scale we now buy as a troop and have the patrols switch off taking turns
cooking (most campouts we had between 15 - 20 folks to feed).
For years I have charged $10 for campout which typically was for four meals
(Saturday Breakfast to Sunday Breakfast) with the scouts bringing a sack
dinner on Friday from home (most just bring something from McDonalds for
If the trip is less than 60 miles we generally do not reimburde the leaders
who are driving but on longer trips we do tack on transportation. At the
same time we do not charge the leaders for food on the trips.
In those cases where we have council fees (Camporees, etc. we just add those
on the top).
Big trips we let the PLC do their own cost estimate and charge accordinaly.
After holding the line on $10 for seven years we may be forced to raise
prices. Have you seen the price of Milk lately?
