Two items from over the weekend:
1 - the rumor that President Clinton did not visit the jambo in '93
due to some conflict with the BSA's official stance on homosexuality.
If someone can show me an official pronouncement or factual news
story to that effect I will believe it. Otherwise, I will not. I wish
Scouters could stop spreading rumors. But then, I suppose we're just
being human . . . kind of like Bill Clinton, huh?
2 - the issue of whether or not "Clinton ordered" that flags fly at
half-mast following the death of Spiro Agnew, former VP of the US.
The flag code says that on the death of a _former_ Vice-President,
flags are to be flown at half-mast until the day of interment (unless
ordered otherwise by the President). The nine flags (some may be
government, some private) I can see from my office here in DC _were_
at half-mast following his death and as late as Friday, I recall. The
funeral was to be private; I see today (Monday) the flags are no
longer at half-mast.
