Re: Cub Scout Leader Training

After having seen seven messages in a row with critique on
the training hours, I have to add my 2 cents.
The old cub scout leader training sylabus realy was broken.
It does not make sense to take parents who just joined, agreed
to become den leader but have no cub experience and
overload them with 8 hours of stuff. They simply don't
have the experience to ground those 8 hours.
It makes much much more sense to give them a 4 hour course
which doesn't explain everything and later another supplemental
Of course this will fail if the trainers believe they can squeeze
the old 8 hour sylabus into the new 4 hour slot. Unless the
trainers know what is most important and adabt to the new times
it is asking a lot from the participants to like the new course.
I find the sylabus somewhat dry but have no problem to
make some stuff interesting for the participants if I'm allowed
to concentrate on whats really important for a first course.
I have spent very little time with the supplement syllabus. As
much as I prefer the new form with supplements, I think the
actual contents of the supplemental lessons somewhat poor.
