I've read two replies to this question and I will give a qualified
answer that I agree with both. His tenure for Star should be credited
on 10-23-93 (4 months, right?). His "clock started ticking" as soon
as he became 1st class. His incumbent leadership position starts
counting on 6-23-93. The qualification is thus: Mike Bowman is right
that the time should count. TroopMaster will compute this properly,
but it's a little tricky when backfitting past Troop history.
Some things have to be entered in the proper sequence when
backfitting. I had some instances where I had to delete and reenter
all leadership positions for a couple of Scouts and also had to delete
and then reenter, in chronological order (so that they fell into the
proper ranks in the proper order), all the merit badges for a couple
Check the manual for the leadership positions. It explains how they
do and don't get transferred into a Scout's history records.
Don't let this tedious stuff discourage you from using TroopMaster.
Once your troop history is caught up, it is very easy to keep up, and
the benefits are tremendous. Used properly, the program will actually
remind you that a Scout is ready for a Board of Review, for example.
The Scouts don't always keep careful track of this.
I'm not saying we keep their records for them; we are always telling
them their books are the OFFICIAL record. The computer is just a way
for us to keep track of all 30 of them in one place and to avoid
mistakes counting the number of days for advancement, etc.
The Target First Class and merit badge matrix reports are a great way
of planning program activities.
Good luck! I'll try to answer any questions I can, but I have also
found Sam and Linda to be very helpful over the phone.

I am pluging all the information into troopmaster
the problem I am having is, I have a boy who was appointed Quartermaster
as a 2nd class on 03/01/93, during his tenure he made 1st class on 06/23/93
he still held the position until 10/04/93 and at that time he was elected
Patrol Leader, which he held until 05/15/94, the program is crediting his
position of responsibility for Star on 02/04/94 which is only counting his
time as Patrol Leader. My question is does the 3 months and 19 days he
served as a Quatermaster while a 1st class count or does he have to already
be a 1st class when elected/appointed ? Thank in advance!
