What is it, with this thread on Wood Badge? It is nothing more than
another training session. No Big Deal. I am sure that we
have all been to Training where there have been Good instructing techniques
and Bad instructing techniques. Who is putting who on that pedestal. The
staffers themselves or the participants? We are all fallible human beings.
I remember doing a training session this spring (not WB); when I overheard
a participant remark that they had never been in a room with so many Wood
Badge people before.
At the time for my presentation, I informed the group that we Beaders were
No different then them. That we had just attended another training session.
Yes, one of the fellow staff members took a mild offense at my comment. So
Some fellow Beaders may think that they are Elite, but so do many people in
life away from Scouting. It just depends on how each individual wants to
handle the situation. We Beaders are not Elitist or at least we should not
I feel that the Wood Badge experience helped me understand how to guide the
unit (Youth) better. I do believe that is the object.
I took it as a GAME, much like I took my Boot Camp at Parris Island in the
50's. Semper Fi!
Remember we are here for the Youth in our program. If an Ego has to be hurt,
better an Adult, then a Youth. IMNSHO.
