Explorer Post 67 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, used to manufacture kayaks for each
member -- probably along the lines of what you describe. That was when I was
a member, circa 1969-72.
If no one else comes up with a better alternative, I could try to track down
the post. It was an LDS group, so the leadership has changed several times
since then. The Council office in Provo, Utah, might lend some guidance
(Utah National Parks Council).
E-mail me if no one else comes up with a source of plans . . .
Are any members of the old post on this list? Stan Crump was a member, and
last I heard he was women's swim coach at Brigham Young -- he may be
reachable on the Internet.
Gee, that triggered another thought. Doesn't BYU still have their youth
leadership major? I'd bet that someone in that department could lend some
direction. Rulon Skinner is probably retired as canoeing instructor there,
but he may be reachable through the university directory . . .
