I readily admit I don't read even a quarter of what's posted here (I have a
job besides scouting). But this thread has interested me and I have read
most of it. I have not seen the following points -- if they have already
been discussed, please forgive me.
Point: Is there no difference under the law between recreational singing
(as around a campfire), and "performing?" If it exists, it seems such a
distinction would cover most scouting applications.
Point 2: Somewhere I have read that the copyright law does not
generally apply to parodies -- where the lyrics are twisted or modified for
comical purposes -- performed by amateur groups. If this is true (and I
think it is) it is another piece of useful information for developing campfire
skits and songs, etc.
