Jonah asked a question that has come up several times in the past:
>How about we design and distribute a patch for Scout-L members?
There exists TWO patches out there for "Internet Scouters", which was
defined as "anyone accessing any electronic Scouting forum for the purpose
of sharing, receiving or exchanging information with other Scouts or Scouters
either in the same country or in another one".
I designed and distributed 110 of the "Amimi" flaps before and during the last
NOAC, and they were received very well, with a percentage of the proceeds going
to the BSA's World Friendship Fund. Unfortunately, Jessica and I had a short
run of finances and we were unable to reorder another 100 or so before NOAC.
After NOAC, we experienced a series of problems with the folks supplying our
patches and we started shopping around for a new patch company that would do
a BETTER job with our designs than this company did (no names, they did a fine
job for us in the past, and we still do other business with them. I'll just
these folks are the same ones that did a SUPERIOR job on the College Scouter
CSPs for Eastern Kentucky and Idaho State Universities).
There is another design, more simplistic than the flap, which I've sent out via
the Internet after NOAC was over. The design is a fire, with the letters
"S" created from the flames, and surrounding creating an inner border, are the
Morse code for "Internet Scouters and Guiders". These has NOT be produced, and
as soon as I get settled here and don't have to worry about things like "are
to be here in-country for the entire time, or are you going "downrange" (to
Serbia or Bosnia)? I can drag it out from the diskettes Jessi is sending
and send it
out once again for final concurrance.
What I would LIKE to do this time around, is to create some sort of
would allow you to send a direct "donation" to the World Friendship Fund and
in return, receive a patch for your donation. The folks at National's
Division are not receptive to outside "solitications" and would rather we do
"the traditional way": hold a World Friendship Fund campfire program and
hat" and have those monies sent to the the Fund via your local Council. But
and I go back a while, and who knows, I may be able to convince her that
this is worth a try ONCE to see what kind of response it would generate (and
real contributions can realistically come about from it).
After all, there are lots of Councils that make small amounts of programming
program support monies from the sales of promotional CSPs and Lodge Flaps.
Anyone else want to comment on this?? And for those that haven't traded the
flaps (the ones with supposely the "dove of peace" on them...that was the
problem with the patch company....)...are they still "marketable"??
