We have the same problem. The boring part I think comes from within. Our
Pack has typically done the same old same old year after year. As the new CC
I am trying to change that. Parents also see sports as #1. I believe ,and
this is from my Scoutimg days, each year you need to keep a little from the
past and mix it in with new ideas.
We do not use the Program Helps, attend Roundtables, Pow Wow's,training,
parents, or creative thinking. All of that is slowly changing.
Asked my son how he handles it, and without giving it much thought, his
reply was he tells them all the neat things and places that Cubs do. I guess
it helps to have both parents into Cubs over their heads :)
Kim, I agree with your ceremony ideas. With about 100 Cubs that is what we
are doing this year. Caught some grief from some Leaders who_know_.
That does need to be a special ceremony and that helps to keep interest
also. If everyone knows the dates they have something to shoot for. If a boy
does not make it, we are having an outdoor Pack meeting in May for
graduation and any remaining rank advancements .
