I am the Commettee Chairman of Troop 40, So.Valley NJ. Our troop has not
had a "fee" for many years. We have a big spaghetti dinner once a year that rais
es sufficent funds for our annual program. Participation has always been mandato
ry, with occasionally SM approved absence. Our charter is expanding and of cours
e a larger troop does not necessarly have the same team work and dedication of a
small troop. At a Committee meeting, it was decided that an annual fee of $40.
will be charged to each registered Scout and Scouter. Attendance at the dinner i
s still mandatory, but attendance will satisfy the entire $40.
We spent some time deciding on the correct dollar amount. We felt that in
our area a fee of $10 or $20 would not be a big problem and we would
loose much needed help for the real fund raiser. But, a $40 fee would be
too much for the family to 'shell out' just because the scout didn't want
to work for 6 hours.
New members pay nothing extra.
