I think my best story happen just a few months ago. I have always heard
that as long as you make a difference in one child's life it is all worth
I was a den leader for my son's den for 4 years. In that den there was
one boy who really didn't want to be in scouts. He had all sorts of
words for what scouts meant to him very few of them positive. I think at
the beginning he would have rather spit on me than listen to me.
Well to make a long story short. The night we bridged into Boy Scouting
last March) we went out to McDonald's for free ice cream in celebration.
That same boy came up to me and thanked me for being a den leader and
then in front of all his friends he hugged me. That is not easy for an
10 or 11 year old.
I knew then that it was all worth it.
