If you had actually called his family and had them trek to camp to pick
him up, you would probably have only had to do so the one time. Not only
would he have been out of your hair for this camp, but all the other
Scouts in your Troop would realise that there is substance behind such a
threat, and it would be far easier to manage discipline problems in the
If, after being removed from a camp in this manner, the Scout contined
in your Troop, I think you would see a remarkable turn0-around in his
behaviour in the future.
This is a very well understood policy with the Groups I work with, and
I've found that the threat only has to be carried out a single time, if
ever, to become a highly effective management tool.
