Well my email is finally caught up after my Philmont Training
adventure, and boy did we have an adventure.
I had taken a friend to the health lodge because of an illness
when, while walking around outside, noticed a rather ugly looking
funnel cloud around Cimmaron. I told some Scouts and Scouters that
there was a tornado that looked like it was moving in our general
direction, and was told that there were no tornados in that area.
Turns out I was right. Sat there and watched the whole thing. Was a
very unnerving sight. I was right by the phone so I called home and
left a message that I was sitting there on the phone watching a big
tornado. The electricity went down then and I wasn't able to call back
until 2 days later when I had the chance. In the meantime my 9 year
old thought I was "gone with the wind".
All in all the conference I attended, PowWow Leadership, was great. Our
instructors, Jane Gillespie and Dian Pryor, were absolutely the best.
These ladies had it together!!! If you haven't had the chance to go to
Philmont, or attend conferences, I would encourage you to let someone at
your local council know you are interested. The chance to interact with
other Scouters from all over the country is invaluable!!! What ideas these
great people had!!!
Well, now it's on to summer camp next week, and then WoodBadge in 3 weeks.
My wife says she is feeling like a real Scouter Widow now.
