I have a cell phone as does our SM, CC, two ASM and many CM. Yes, they
are great and mine is worth every cent I spend on it! We have never
had to use any phones for emergency purposes, but it is nice to know
that they are there. One of the best ways we have used the cell phone
is to advise the folks back home of ETA. One or two parents back home
get a call and then call all the other parents with the time to meet
their campers in the church parking lot - or other meeting place. This
has really cut down on our waiting time.
One caution. One of our new scouts took his mama's cell phone with him
to summer camp this year. She was worried that he would just get too
homesick. Well, this didn't help his homesickness, plus the cell phone
didn't work at Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch! I'm sure this would be true
at many scout camps.
