We are trying to make a Parade Banner for our Cubs to carry in
some parades in the next few months. We have some Blue Canvas
and are trying to glue vinyl letters on it but nothing seems
to work. My wife has tried "Heat n Bond" but it won't stick
to the waterproofing on the canvas. Any ideas? Any suggestions
would be appreciated.
Hello Colonel Ron E. Goble,
My Pack made a Parade Banner with a large rectangle of heavy weight
dark blue felt cloth and fabric glued letters that we cut out
of yellow felt. On the top edge of the banner we sewed a sleeve
that we slide a BSA Hiking Staff (BSA Cat. No. T01443 $2.95) through.
This Staff make a good handle, sticking out of both sides of the banner
by about a foot. As an additional improvement I recommend you sew
in another sleeve on the bottom of the banner and slide in a shorter
staff that you cut to length. This extra weight and stiffener will
keep the banner straight and wrinkle free when you are marching
into a head wind. When you need to transport it you'll have a folded
or rolled banner and just two poles to carry. Our banner worked
great this spring when we used it and it hangs on of meeting place
wall for all to see at Den and Pack meetings.
I hope this helps you and the other Scouter in our group Colonel.
