On Sunday I talked to Jon Grasmeder who was at the Philmont Training
Center last week during the tornado.
The normal weather pattern at Philmont is that weather moves from SW
(Rayado/Uracca) over headquarters NE towards Cimarron. This was the
case with the storm last thursday. PTC participants ran out to see
where the locomotive sound was coming from. It must have passed
right over CHQ/PTC. Fortunately the funnel cloud didn't form until
the storm was past PTC. Unfortunately it came down right in the
middle of Cimarron with significant damage.
A few of the wooden platform tents blew over in tent city. The
concrete based ones were fine.
On another topic, Jon passed along information that new Cub Scout
Leader Fast Start tapes are being distributed to Councils. There are
two versions of the viewer's guide - a pocket version and a
reproducable 8.5 x 11" version. There is also an update to the CSLBT
Tiger Coach Group split sesssion which covers the "new" Tiger
Cub Scout Pack 1113, Troop 50 Patawomeck District
National Capital Area Council, (Washington, D.C. Area)
