I've just finished catching up with over 500 postings and this line caught my
attention above all others. I know I'm late getting in my humble opinion but
here goes anyway.
We won't cancel Mother's day, but it still hurts deep in your heart not to
have your Mother on Mother's day. Same as with Dad. So we probably just
ingnore the day to the best of our ability.
How do you explain to a cub scout that he will miss going to an event
because it is a cub/dad day and he doesn't have a dad to go with him, or a
Mom/son day and he doesn't have a mom to go with him. Are kids more
resilient than we give them credit for, REALLY? Most kids will put on a
tough I don't care attitude, but inside it hurts! It makes me want to cry
when I see something advertised as a Cub/Dad day and the kids are wanting to
know if they are going to miss the event because Dad can't go...
We have to adjust to our changing society.
Why can't we just call it Cub/Partner weekend. Keep the events focused on
the cubscouts, not trying to bond mom and son or son and dad. I think that
just by the effort that Mom, Dad, Aunt, Uncle, Grandma, Grandpa or good
neighbor put out to attend functions with the cub scout that they are
showing the interest to "bond". Lets just make sure that all the cubs feel
welcome and that they don't have to miss any event because of the absence of
