In regard to "Know Your Name?", written by "Deborah J.C. Morrow"
I'm usually referred to as Leader, CubMaster, hey you, you there,
or "Um, Um, Um" - and these are boys from Tigers to Webelos
(a few who are not my own have taken to calling me "Mom" as my own
This brings up a question to me:
Do you wear a "BSA Uniform Nameplate" above
your right pocket on your uniform?
I started doing this a few years ago and it helps a great deal.
The boys, parents and most of the leaders in my BSA Council
all know my name. It is nice to be known and called by your
proper name and I can thank that little nameplate for it. It
helps new families know me and it shows that I have nothing
to hide, I put my name right out in front of me for all to see,
and I am proud of it.
I know many times at a council function I have wondered who
that person I was talking with is, besides another Scout Leader.
Hasn't this happened to you? Nameplates alleviate this.
If you don't have a nameplate already, I highly recommend making
this small ($3.80) purchase. You can order one from your BSA
catalog or your local Scout Shop.
Another idea for you may be, have your unit present a nameplate
to each NEW Scout Leader that signs up in your group.
