Regarding the discussion on Camping Merit Badge Camping Experience
What defines Summer Camp? An established base camp?... What about a
week long backpack trip? Can you count 6 nights of camping at a BSA
camp, and then another 6 nights from the 50 miler your troop had that
same summer? What if it was only 3 nights long?... Where do you draw
I'm not trying to be difficult... I would just like to better understand
some of the interesting twists and turns that can come up. Frankly,
I think that's what we have counselors for. To understand the "spirit"
of the requirements (in this case, it is somewhat vague), and make sure
the boy fills the requirements by showing good camping experience with
at least 20 days and nights of camping. I don't think this can be done
by camping at a BSA camp for three weeks. But I would think that a 50
miler would contribute to the camping experience as well. So can I
count 12 nights in one summer?
Looking forward to your opinion on this one...
