Girl Scouts - Salute the Flag?

I have just come back from a Scout trip to the Czech Republic. On this trip
we had both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. One thing that surprised me was
that the Girl Scouts, even though they were in uniform with blue vests and
blue pants, did not salute the flag during flag ceremonies. Instead, they
gave respect by putting their hands over their hearts. This was true of the
Girl Scout leaders as well.
Is this something unique to the group that was with me? Or, is this what
girls are taught in the Girl Scouts program?
It doesn't bother me either way, it was just a surprise. As it was, there
were three types of respect given the flags: hands over hearts by the Girl
Scouts, Scout salute by the Boy Scouts, and Scout sign with raised right
hand by the Czech Scouts.
