In our Council, since most camping is done within the troop, the
Scoutmaster generally signs off the Camping Merit Badge. This is
approved by our Council Advancement Committee. It just seems to make
sense. For those Units who use TroopMaster, it is easy to track the
number of nights camping.
That's not to say that Scouts don't sometimes use an outside MB
counselor for camping. We have several Scouts working on this MB at
summer camp this year. The Summer Camp Staff requires a statement
from the Scoutmaster regarding camping nights to make sure that they
have completed this requirement.
