Although the web site is still operating, I've not updated it since February
27, 1996, mainly because of a proposal that another Scouter and myself put
forward to Scouts Canada to allow us to issue a cd-rom with 200 issues (1975
to 1994 inclusive) of The Leader magazine on it, which was submitted on
March 6, 1996. All of these issues have been scanned and formatted and are
sitting on my hard drive. In the proposal, we suggested a selling price of
$29.95 CDN per unit.
Although we thought that we had made it perfectly clear that we were not
asking for any funding whatsoever from either Scouts Canada or Canyouth
Publications Ltd., and the offer was extremely lucrative to both Scouts
Canada and/or Canyouth Publications Ltd., we received a letter from Andy
McLaughlin last week declining our proposal as Quote 'The members reviewing
your proposal felt the cost estimates for the project were extemely high.
There were other concerns regarding your process of asking for copyright
permission.' End Quote.
In the same letter, I was asked to Quote 'remove all Leader material that is
currently on your Web Site, and refrain from posting Leader material to Web
Sites and Newsgroups unless you seek and obtain permission from the magazine
and the author (through the Executive Editor).' End Quote.
Although we don't fully understand the reasoning behind their decision, and
are making an effort to clarify their decision, I will be deleting a
substantial portion of the web site as soon as I can arrange to visit the ISP.
Should anyone wish additional information, contact me directly.
