Another suggestion is to have the Cub Scout Den Leader Fast Start
tape available for showing as part of your recruitment pitch.
In our pack we also stress, starting on Join Scouting Night, that Cub
Scouts is a FAMILY program where everyone is involved. We avoid the
"Baby Sitters of America" mindset by constantly reinforcing the idea
of parental involvement. We make expectations known early so it is
no surprise when parents are approached to help out with the program
(either at the Den or Pack level).
On a related topic, not everyone has the skills necessary to be a
good leader (although everyone has talents that can be used somewhere
in Scouting). We should recruit effective leaders, not just accept
anyone who will sign on the dotted line. I realize this is the ideal
but its something to keep in mind.
