We have a Father/Son cake decorating contest each year, and a Mother/Son
canoe trip each year.
These events are in name only. We are trying to encourage participation
from a parent that might not otherwise participate.
The most important goal is to get the Scout's involvement.
We would never turn a boy away because a parent could not participate.
We have several instances when Mom or Dad pinch hitted for the other; ie
mom's "coaching" on the cake decorating, or a dad on the Mother/Son canoe
trip. We welcome any parent on any activity. We are just encouraging
one more than the other on these two events.
Gender exclusive events should never hinder the participation of a boy.
The boys are the primary reason we do any events. Parental participation is
secondary to that.
Just some thoughts.
