I too would like to hear opinions on the new proposals...
If you have not yet seen the new proposals you can view a synopsis at:
I was going to pose the same question tomorrow. Here's my feelings, I am
a new delegate, so I'm not decided for sure on anything yet, I'm just
posing food for thought. The service unit input is not yet in.

Probably necessary to help support the council better, but it is a big
jump increase, maybe a gradual increase would be better. Maybe $2.00 the
first year and a $1.00 each year after. We have many kids who use
financial aid for membership dues and this would only increase greatly
the amount of money needed by councils.
> .....the proposed changes in the wording of the Girl
Couple thoughts...I don't mind the new one, it has merit, and seems
reasonable, but, I don't like the way the words "and to" stick out.
Maybe if it was just "and" and the "to" was placed in the next sentence.
They also use very big words in the new one such as "courageous", which
would be very hard for most scouts to spell when writing the laws for
ceremonies. Also for ceremony purposes, each line in the law now has 2
meanings, sometimes simple is best. On the other hand, It is more sing,
songy and may be easier for new scouts to memorize.
> .....changing the Girl Scout motto & clarifying the GS
I don't like this idea at all. I feel, working with older girls, they
all ready feel they can never be "best" at anything. Magazines are
always telling them how perfect they should be. "Being prepared" for all
situations presents more of a mind set of learning what you should know
and acting upon it. "Being your best" sounds more like "put on your
Sunday go to meetin' clothes". Something should be said for tradition,
and "Be Prepared" can be just as much a slogan for advertisements as "Be
Your Best". It is the only real common link left between Boy and Girl
Scouts in the USA.
> .....reducing the size of the National Council and the
Being new to the delegate position, I don't see where either of these
would be a problem. We would still have representation and also be
saving the local councils some money.
> .....other proposals or nominees for elective
Lifetime membership increase. I think this should pass. The lifetime
memberships have not been increased since 1982, when memberhip dues were
Criteria for the new uniforms...
This is still very wide open. What is affordable and practical? Is it
the same all over the nation? This proposal basically states criteria
that is already being used.
The other 2 proposals I do not know enough about how things work to yet
have much of an opinion, but:
Changing the structure and composition of the National Nominating
As I see it, this is merely a way to get more businesses backing Girl
Scouts. This is a good thing, after election they would be required to
become members anyhow.
As far as diversity Analysis...
I do not feel the diversity numbers are accurate anyway. Many leaders do
not know how to classify kids. Many parents of bi-racial children still
check "white". (There is supposed to be a new box for bi-racial on this
nest membership form.) Yet, these numbers are what determines help from
organizations such as United Way. Things change a lot in six years, so
analysis done more often should help get more accurate numbers.
Just a few thoughts, although still undecided...anyone have any other
