I've been monitoring the group for a couple of months now and suspect an
introduction is overdue.
My name is Bob Nieland. I'm Committee Chairman of Cub Scout Pack 101
(http://www.pack101.org) of Naperville, Illinois. Naperville is a rapidly
growing city in the western suburbs of Chicago. Pack 101 is part of a new
district, as yet unnamed, which is being formed in a split of the Illinois
District of Three Fires Council. After growing to over 100 boys last year,
we decided to split our pack as well, and are in the process of forming new
Pack 75 now.
I wasn't involved in Scouting as a youth, so I don't have the long history
that many of you have. I got involved with the Pack because I have three
sons (currently a Tiger Cub, a Bear and a Webelos Scout who plans to bridge
to Boy Scouts next February), and wanted to have a hand in ensuring they had
a positive experience. This is my fourth year as an adult leader, and I've
come to appreciate that values that are reinforced and skills taught in
Scouting. Scouting has its own language and traditions, however, and
understanding what it all means and how things fit together takes time.
In addition to helping to provide that understanding, I've found that this
discussion group provides a tremendous source of useful ideas and
information about Scouting. Our pack already has benefitted and will
continue to benefit from the discussion that occurs here daily. Thanks for
your willingness to share the wealth of your knowledge and experience.
