hope everyone will forgive taking two subjects into one mail message, but here
tigers *cannot* get beltloops; *HOWEVER* as other people have pointed out,
once they complete first grade, they are wolves and can get beltloops.
there is no restriction to wait until they get the wolf badge. this might
be counterproductive (imo), because why go to day camp if they have to wait
for the award? boys that age do not appreciate, the *work* if the award,
they want/need that instant reward.
as far as problems getting people motivated to help, we too lost our
main leadership (yep, a scandal about our money--BSA needs to teach a course
on this!). we struggled for a while, and yes we target certain people that
should enthusiasm. we have one combination committee/leader meeting.
i have an agenda of items that need to be discussed. the main thing i found
is that people do not listen. i kid that i should not make any announcements
at pack meetings, because no one listens, the pack newsletter does not
seem to get across the fact that we need volunteers.
committee meetings and a combination of an overhead at the last pack meeting
showing the people we were losing and the jobs (including my *wish* list) that
we needed help for worked well. i found most people will take on "limited"
jobs (i.e. pinewood derby, blue and gold) and then you can reel 'em in once
they have their confidence up.
i also keep my mouth shut unless there is going to be a violation of pack/or
national policy. if they volunteer, you need to help them if they ask, but
let them do it.
