Maybe it's personal, but why would Platoon be appropriate for 13 yr olds?
Although it is an excellent movie, IMHO, it's *way* too graphic for them. A
good movie with the military that's a lot less graphic is a film entitled
"Tribes". It was made, I believe, in the early 70's. It's excellent at
showing the rigors of a Marine boot camp minus the explicit vulgarities of
say "Full Metal Jacket". It also extolls the virtues of teamwork. Some of
the early scene's may seem silly to the Generation X'ers. There's some
"Flower Power" stuff that'll seem real corny, AMOF (did we really do that
My recommendation: TRIBES.
