I am fairly new to Boy Scouting as a whole with my son just ending his
2nd year but I have to say that this practice seems strange to me...
Our own troop gives each boy a troop neckerchife... which has the troop
patch sewn on it. upon entrance into the troop... usually his first night
after all the paperwork is submitted.... the practice mentioned above
seems to say to me that "you are not really a member of the troop until
you hit First Class" and as the newly annointed Advancement Chair is not
a feeling I would want promoted....
just my thoughts
