Bob, I was going to get on your case for your assumption about mothers,
when I realized that you might be right. If I had to choose between
watching my son do these things or him watching me do them, I'd rather not
settle for watching.
It's not my assumption, it's the boys, or society's at least.
Besides, moms still have the freedom of emotional expression and
are expected to worry over their children's safety. Us dads are
just as nervous when watching our children do dangerous
activities, but we're expected to be macho about it and not show
it. In my experience, all parents who love their children are
torn between being overprotective and letting go.
